My Fluid Series Of Paintings

IMG_0469I continue to enjoy my new series of fluid paintings. Here’s an already finely-received round panel, 30″ diameter, cooking (resin-wise).

I love playing with the vibrancy and interplay between colours as well as the movement of the paint itself, as it settles and hardens.

A resin overlay always seems to be that final last step necessary for the series to visually work.

Art Fairs Around The Globe

For those art-lov’n globe-trotters out there. Here’s a global-schedule of upcoming (and past) fairs, month by month, listing country and usual attendance.

This month, in Toronto, there’s The Artist Project, taking place Feb 19th-22nd where several MJG-artists will offer new work; while MJG will be participating in Love Art, April 17th-19th.

Basquiat @ the AGO

Jean-Michel BasquiatTonight I enjoyed the opening preview of the much anticipated Jean-Michel Basquiat show at the AGO. But for a few stellar exceptions “Now’s The Time” is at least a showcase-primer for this gone-too-soon artist’s ideas. His layered canvases reflected upon his Haitian-Puerto Rican heritage, his fascination with anatomy, jazz (most notably the music of Charley Parker) and his graffiti-infused concepts. My personal faves included several collaborative works with Andy Warhol.

JMB was an indirect influence on my own work including my Whimsy series of Judy-form figures with birds & text and perhaps my earlier Chair series.

This is the only Canadian stop for “Now’s The Time”. So all the more reason to view it from Feb 7th-May 10th at the Art Gallery of Ontario, in Toronto.

MJG Gallery @ Braised restaurant & bar

braisedI feel MJG has settled nicely into its Leslieville home. For the past several months, I’ve been working with owner Sam Scanga of Braised restaurant & bar located nearby, at 896 Queen Street East, curating art for the decor. (Sam also runs Lolita’s Lust on the Danforth.)

Besides the more-than tasty num-nums, the walls are festooned with MJG art-selections including my own work as well as paintings by Brendon McNaughton and Andrea Rinaldo.

Visit for the art. Stay for lunch and/or dinner!

Welcome to MJG!

So here we are. Finally online after over three years in business without an online presence. Welcome. Mark is so grown up now!

MJG recently enjoyed a strong showing at IDS15 in Toronto, a well attended trade fair for what’s what in the interior design world. Lots of praise was given for the rich selection of work Mark featured in his booth.

Currently, Mark’s mixed-media photography is being shown at another Toronto gallery, Akasha Art Projects. Despite the January-blues, the show has been getting good notice. “Looking Back When” winds down this Saturday, February 7th. That same evening, Mark will close the show with an informal talk about about his process & technique while charmingly answer questions about the show.

This is an open & free exhibition @ Akasha Art Projects.
